Exodus 3 & 4Following last week’s devotional I will give the next 2 excuses as to why Moses thought he was not the man for the call to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt.
3. I am not Eloquent: Excuse number three is found in Exodus 4:10,where Moses says to God “I am Not Eloquent”. Notice once again as stated in part 1, Moses still has his eyes on his own weaknesses and not on the capacity and power of God, who can take anyone to do greatness through his power if they only believe. Moses had spent the last 40 years taking care of sheep, and he had lost the ability to be able to speak the way he spoke when he was in the palaces of Egypt. He felt that, in order to deliver Israel and enter into the palaces of Pharaoh and stand before him, he was not able to talk and communicate up to the level required. But God just takes it as an excuse, and says to Moses in verse 11”Who has made man’s mouth? Or makes the dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?”. Notice how God is taking Moses eyes of his own abilities and putting them on Him. In other words, what God is saying to Moses is, you don’t worry about what you think will not work, if I have called you I can make it work. God made a donkey speak once. Maybe you feel that for what God is challenging you to do, that you are not gifted or equipped enough to fulfil it. I want to encourage you to focus on the calling of God over your life and put your faith in the fact that if God called you He will equip you. You can be 100% sure of that.
4. Send Someone Else: In verse 12 we have Moses last excuse, He says to God please send someone else. What He was saying is someone else is more gifted than me, they can do it better, they are more talented etc. Many times the reason we do not do the great things that God puts on how hearts is because we think that there is always some one else better equipped for the job. But the truth is that no one will be able to do what God has called you to do. In verse 14, God had enough of the excuses and the word says the following “And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses”. God actually God upset with Moses' excuses and refusing to believe in the calling of God over His life. To put up an excuse before God, after He has called you is to say I do not believe in your power to do it through me. Thank God that Moses finally surrendered and the rest is history.
Beloved brother and sister you have been called for greatness, no more excuses. Go ahead and do what God has called you to do, leave the weaknesses to him and I am sure that He is more than capable to use you anyway.
A Pastor friend of mine once said to me “Do you know where the most gifted people in the world are, where the greatest business ideas are, where the greatest preachers are, where the greatest musicians are, where the greatest ministries are etc” I asked him where and he said “they are in the grave”. He said, in the grave you have people that if they had done what God called them to be they would have been the best, but they never surrendered and they never thought they were capable. God Bless.
