1 Kings 17:2-8What indicates that you are in the right place? What indicates that you are in God’s will? And What indicates that you are in a place of total provision?
I’m sure that the answers to these questions might differ from person to person. But I want to show you what I believe the answer to be according to the word of God.
The place of provision is the place where you hear God speak to you. Now let me briefly explain this. In 1 Kings 17, the prophet Elijah finds himself along with the nation of Israel in one of the worst droughts ever to hit that land, in verse 2 he hears the word of the Lord come to him, which instructs him to go to a brook called Cherith near the Jordan river, and that there God would provide him with water to drink and that he would supernaturally receive meat to eat, brought to him by ravens. Verse 5 says that Elijah “went and did according to the word of the Lord”. Notice that Elijah is the only man in Israel at this moment who has received insight on how to survive the drought, all he needs to do is be obedient. Verse 6 goes on to say “And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook”. Wow, Elijah has been kept from the natural disaster that has hit. All this because he hears the word from the Lord.
But notice what happens next, which will show us that the place of provision is the place wherever we hear the word of the Lord. The Bible goes on to say in verse 7 “And it came to pass after a while (2 years) that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land”. Now notice that he is now in a place that in the natural is suffering because of the drought in Israel. Naturally speaking there is now lack of provision, but the next verse will show us that he had the most important provision he needed. It was the provision that brought him to this place and kept him and it was the provision that will take him to the next place and keep him. Notice verse 8 says “And the WORD OF THE LORD came to him, saying,” you can read the following verses and see that God was taking him to another place of natural provision.
Notice the following 1. The brook dried up around Elijah, but there was no drought of the word of the Lord.
2. You can be at this moment in a natural drought, where things seem to be drying up and not advancing, but if you are hearing the voice of God in that place then you are one step away from natural abundance.
3. It is the word of the Lord coming to you that indicates that you are in the right place, not what you are seeing going on around you. If you have the word from the Lord, then you have direction.
4. The worst drought that we could ever have is a drought of hearing the word of God, even though things seem to be going great. Because in the day of trouble it is the word of God that will tell us what to do and where to go.
5. When you have the word of God coming to your life continually you will not be in a famine or a drought long.
6. No word and revelation from the Lord and Elijah stays in Cherith and thirsts to death or begins to find his own way to survive. But the word came right on time and took him to the next level of provision.
Beloved, the place of provision is the place where you hear the Lord speaking to you. If you have that, you have what is more precious than silver and gold. And you will always be in the right place, at right time, for the right moment. Amen.
