2 Timothy 2:15A few days ago I was meditating on the difference between Inspiration and Learning. And the Lord dropped a few thoughts into my spirit that I believe to be of great benefit concerning the topic. The following is a little of what the Lord showed me.
To be inspired is good but it is more effective and long lasting when ollowed by steady application which comes as a result of study, learning and discipline. We live in a world where people need to be inspired to do something and thus most of the time what people endeavour to do by inspiration does not last the test of time. How many times have you or I after hearing, reading or seeing a program about a certain diet got inspired, and said I am starting a diet tomorrow and after 2 weeks the inspiration has gone and we go back to our normal eating habits. Or how many times have you been inspired to go to the gym, in order to get a physic like Arnold Schwarzenegger, only to realize that after two weeks of going to the gym, it was going to take more than inspiration to get you there. What is needed is discipline and the willingness to learn. The most successful athletes, business people, musicians, scientists are those that have mastered the ability of study, learning and application.
The attitude of needing to be inspired to achieve something can be dangerous for the believer who wants to be all that God has called him to be. To achieve your goals and be successful in life and in your faith walk with God it is going to take more than inspiration to get you there, it is going to take a discipline that applies what is being studied and learned. This is why I believe with all of my heart that we need anointed teaching that brings revelation knowledge in the church like never before. More than being inspired when we come to church we need to learn and then apply with patience what we learn on a daily basis, and then we will begin to see the process of development in our lives. However I do believe there is a time and place to be inspired, but in order to grow we must add learning, study and application which might not be exciting all the time, but it will achieve results.
Notice the difference between the words Inspiration and Study/Learning:
Inspiration: To be aroused, animated, to be affected towards a certain feeling, pushed towards an action.
2. Study/Learning: Application of the mind to gain knowledge, this is done by reading, investigation and learning from a teacher. A detailed examination and analysis of a subject. To be diligent towards doing what is learned, Be earnest, to be disciplined.
The Apostle Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman who needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. Paul told Timothy to apply himself to learning in order to be approved before God and before men, that it would be noticeable that he was growing from faith to faith and from glory to glory.
I encourage you to be a learner and add to your inspiration disciplined application and watch how you become all that God has for you.
