Galatians 5:6For faith to be working at its full potential it needs to be energised by love. Faith comes by hearing the word and then works on the principle of love. Kenneth Copeland once said “Faith without love is like a tyre without air”.
Driving a car with a flat tyre is very difficult and uncomfortable. And realistically a tyre without air will take you nowhere and really is of no use. So it is with faith, if it does not work together with love, it would make it very difficult to function correctly. The word ‘works’ in Galatians 5:6 is “energeo” in the Greek an means the following: To be active, efficient, operative, produce, accomplish etc. That is what love will do to faith.
The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:2 “and though I have all Faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing”. Notice that the Apostle Paul is not saying that faith cannot move the mountain, for the force of faith can, but he is saying that if not energised or produced in love he is nothing in the eyes of God.
I believe what the Lord is teaching us in these passages concerning faith and love is to reveal what is our motivation when we do what we do as believers. The motivation of everything that we do as faith people must be grounded in love, in order for it to be acceptable to God and to benefit us.
Our love towards God and towards people will be the determining factor for how faith operates in our lives and how it is viewed in the eyes of God.
In the same passage of 1 Corinthians 13:3 the Apostle goes on to say “And though I bestow (give) all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned and have not love, it profits me nothing”.
Meditate on, why do you give? Why do you go to church? Why do you pray and read the Bible? Why do you sing at church? Why do you witness to people? Why do you serve in a particular ministry? All these things are acts of faith, but if the answer to why we do them is other than love, it is of no value.
I encourage you this day to have a look at the love factor.
Our love for God and our love for people and also our understanding that He loves us unconditionally. When we have faith being energised by love and love is our motivation then what we do blesses God, blesses people and blesses every area of our lives.
Amen.
