2 Corinthians 9:6-15
Last Sunday I made a statement in my message that I would like to bring out further in this devotional. The statement was as follows: “We should not pray for money, because prayer is not the seed for money”. Now for someone that is not familiar with the word of God that might sound a little strange, but I want you to know that the statement is biblical. So many people believe that they can just pray, and pray and pray for the release of God’s blessings over their lives, and expect the blessing to come to them without having to do nothing else but pray. Please understand beloved church that God works in our lives based on principles that we must put into action, established laws that are in His word that if followed will bring great reward to our lives. Praying for money without sowing a financial seed is the same as praying for tomatoes but never sowing the tomato seed into the ground. You can pray all night long, you can even do a fast but until you do not sow tomatoes you will never see a harvest of tomatoes. Why? Because It is an established law, if you sow you shall reap and if you do not sow you will not reap. This law is the same in the natural and in the spiritual. The Bible says in Genesis 8:22 “While the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvest time”. Yet so many in the body of Christ want the blessing without the sowing, and this mindset has to change if we are going to live the blessed life that God desires for us to live.
2 Corinthians 9:6-15, is a chapter that deals with seed time and harvest time, and it is dealing specifically with finances. Verse 6 says, “But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully”. Here the Apostle Paul is talking about a financial offering that is given. He establishes the law of sowing and reaping, which is the principal God uses to release the harvest. Paul says if you sow a little offering you shall reap a little blessing, and if you sow an abundant and generous offering you shall reap abundantly and generously. Notice that it will not matter how much prayer is done, the blessing and harvest will be determined by the sowing that is done. After we have sown, then we can pray with total confidence. Verse 9 says “Jesus will multiply the seed (financial seed) sown (given)”. Notice that it is the financial seed “sown” that Jesus will multiply. If the financial seed is not sown it cannot be multiplied no matter how much we pray for a financial blessing.
This word will challenge our mindsets and come in total opposition to what has been taught in so much of the church world. I am more interested in believing God’s word concerning sowing and reaping before believing man made teachings that have nothing to do with the truth. I believe in sowing and reaping because the Bible teaches it. And as we put it into practice and begin to sow financial seeds into the kingdom of God and expect a harvest, we will begin to experience God’s way of blessing. Amen.
