A few weeks back I taught a message about enlarging our mindsets. And how in order for God to release the greater blessing He has for us, He is first going to expand, enlarge and prepare our mindsets for that blessing and new thing He desires to do in our lives. We taught that from Luke 5:36-39, that God cannot put new wine into old bottle. The wine representing “Revelation” and the bottle representing our “Mindsets” or way of thinking. We learnt that for God to do the new thing he has to prepare new mindsets. For as verse 37 says “No man (not even God) puts new wine into old bottles”, which is a mindset bound up and limited by tradition, the law, religious systems and an old way of thinking. The mindsets or way of thinking of so many believers cannot contain nor are they ready for the new thing that God wants to do in their lives.
Verse 39 says “No man having drunk old wine straightway desires the new, for he says the old is better”. I’m sure you have heard many people say “the old way is better” or “It cannot happen like that” etc. Why is this? Because the new thing is a shock to the spiritual/mental system. It may even go against everything that the person has been taught. It is hard to let go of the old perspective.
How can our mindsets and way of thinking be prepared for the new thing? In my message I gave 7 practical points to allow our mindset, vision and way of thinking to be enlarged, which will take us to a place of new things. They are as follows:
Be Teachable: Understand we do not know it all and there is always more we can learn. When we think that we know it all we are in a dangerous place, where we will limit God.
Be Humble: Stay humble with the revelation that you receive from God and with what God is showing you. Knowing that He will continue to add more.
Desire More: You have to have expectation. Know that there is so much more to God than we will ever comprehend. Expectation leads to more revelation.
Have faith/trust in God that He will always Give you Good Things: God gives good things to them that ask, this will take away the fear that people have when God is doing something new.
Avoid becoming Critical: Be careful with having a critical spirit. This can lead to bitterness and even leads people to think that they are the only ones that are doing it right. This closes one to enlargement. Understand that what God does with you he may do it differently with someone else.
Allow the Holy Spirit to change through His word our preconceptions, attitudes and desires.
Look at everything according to the perspective of the word, Not according to our own experiences, or the religious system we were birthed in or even to how you were raised.
Kenneth Copeland made the following quote, that we must take a hold of, he said:
“My mind is open to change, But it is not open to compromise. We refuse to try to change the word to fit our lifestyle, We will change our lifestyle to fit the word”. What a powerful statement.
