The word of God in James 1:2-4 says the following “ My brethren count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations, knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing”.
Many believers are left wandering what to do when trials and testing come against their faith. Many times this is because we do not know that testing and trials actually work for us to take us into a higher level. If we are not aware of this truth then when trials do come we run the risk of throwing down our hands and getting all discouraged and upset and begin to talk contrary to faith and thus instead of working for us, trials and testings work against us and take us into an area where we begin to doubt and question God and then we are easy meat for the devil.
The Bible says we are to fight the good fight of faith.
Beloved brother and sister allow me in this simple devotional to explain that, for a faith person, tests and trials are just an indicator that we are going to a higher level.
Firstly, the apostle James says ”Count it all joy”, the word joy means: cheerfulness, calm, delight, gladness, to rejoice, exuberant joy, good cheer etc. In other words, he is saying it is not a time to get sad.
When are we to get excited and to rejoice, James goes on to say something that only a faith person can understand, he says, “When you fall into divers temptation”, the word fall means: To be surrounded by or with. The word divers means: Different types: And the word temptations means: A putting to the proof, tests, trials, adversity, to be provoked etc. That sure sounds strange to the average reader, but to the believer it is understanding what is going on behind the scene. Notice we are to rejoice when trials come. Can you imagine what that does to the devil. Your finances are attacked, you lose your job, your body is suffering pain, marriage is being tested etc, etc, etc and your answer is to be full of joy. The verse goes on to say, why we are to have joy when these things happen, it says ”Knowing this, that the trying (testing, trial) of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire wanting nothing (lacking nothing).
The writer is wanting us to know, be sure and have the conviction and revelation settled in our spirit, that the trying, testing and trial of our faith, through opposition, is working for us to produce patience. Then once all is over and the dust settles and our faith has stood strong to the test in joy, we may rise up into another level in our walk with God, and be just as the verse goes on to say, perfect, entire and lacking nothing.
Beloved, if your faith is being tested and put on trial stand up strong in the Lord and counter attack with the joy of the Lord and watch how God through you turns your test into a testimony. Amen.
