Renewing The Mind

When you and I confessed Jesus Christ as our Lord and saviour immediately our spirit was born again and came alive towards the things of God. Just because our spirit was born again, it does not mean that our mind and way of thinking changed immediately, on the contrary it stayed the same.

Imagine for a moment someone that has received Jesus Christ at the age of 30, and let’s say that the age of reasoning is about 10 years old, that person’s mind has been under the way of thinking of this world, with all it’s strongholds and inclination towards evil and the flesh. When that person receives Jesus and the spirit is born again, the mind continues to think the same way as before. Something needs to happen to that person’s mind in order to line up with what has happened on the inside. This is a truth that can clarify the heartache of so many believers, who are still struggling to be different to whom they were before being born again. The reason is because they have not renewed their minds, though they pray, and stand in prayer lines to be delivered there are no long lasting effects.

Romans 12:2 makes it so clear with respect to what must happen to the mind of a person who has been born again, it says “And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of our mind that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God”.

The word conform means: to adapt, be like, comply with. For this to happen to the believer it is easy, just do nothing with regards to your thinking. For the flesh is always going to be inclined to adapt, to be like the world.

Notice the verse tells us what we are to do.

Instead of conforming, born again believers are to be transformed.

The word transform means: To change condition, function, appearance, form. To give a person a different form to what they were before. Convert something into something else.

2. How is transformation going to happen.

The verse says by the “RENEWING OF THE MIND”. The word renew means: To renovate, to reform, to make new.

3. How does one renew the mind.

Reformation, renovation and renewing of the mind is done only through the word of God. The word of God will renovate and change our minds to think in a way that lines up with God’s righteous standard.  There is no other way. We must get into the word, get it into our eyes and our ears, get it on the inside of you and then speak it . Doing this consistently and with discipline, will give latitude to the Holy Spirit to bring a complete renovation to our minds that in turn will bring transformation.

I encourage you to get into the word like never before and experience the  life transforming RENEWING OF THE MIND. Amen.
