Proverbs 31:28Today we celebrate Mother’s Day, an opportunity to acknowledge our mothers for all their sacrifice and blessings towards us. To be a godly woman, being a mum is one of the deepest most spiritual jobs there can be. It is not just taking care of the physical needs of the family but as Proverbs 31 describes, being a mother is a serious spiritual responsibility through which we have to maintain, teach, instruct, support and guide our children through life. Verse 28 of Proverbs 31 says that our children will call us blessed and our husbands will also praise us, not just because we bare children (which after having gone through the ordeal would seem to be reason enough) but because we maintain our families in the fear of the Lord which in turn brings about success (vr. 30). What a privilege we have to be able to impact and influence other human beings to live according to the word of God, our mission as mother’s is to bring our children into loving, and fearing the Lord and we will surely see them succeed in everything in life. I believe that most mums would say their main aspiration for their children is to see them succeed in everything, this can only be achieved living solely through the word of God.
Many women at times feel that they want to impact the world for Jesus and don’t see themselves doing very much; however we do not realise that our influence and guidance of our children is our main contribution to society. I pray that all the mums in Gospel of Power Church may be inspired to be history makers at home with their children and husbands, so that this verse will be a reality in our lives where our children see their lives as a reflection of our influence on them, an influence which leads them to a personal relationship with Christ, to a life that reflects the word of God. Motherhood, therefore, is a privilege that has an eternal significance in the lives of our family members, may we allow the light of the word guide us in every thing we say and do. So as a church we want to praise our mothers this special day, acknowledging their great labour, love and lifetime sacrifices for your children, young and old. We praise you and bless you this day, and pray that the Lord may continue to guide, strengthen and give you the wisdom to keep serving the Lord faithfully through motherhood.
