Acts 10:38In Acts 10:38 the word of God says “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing GOOD, and healing all who were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him”. I want you to notice that Jesus was anointed to do good wherever He went. The word good means: pleasant, well pleasing, fruitful, appealing useful etc. If the truth be known many people who call themselves Christians think of God as a God that is going around doing bad, waiting for you and I to fall so He can judge and punish us . This kind of thinking causes the believer to live under the bondage of fear and to fall into the trap of becoming sin conscious and judgmental.
We must focus on the goodness of our God and His son our Lord and saviour Jesus who went about doing good everywhere He went. He loved the despised, forgave the sinner, gave food to the hungry. There is a verse in Romans 2:4 that refocuses us on the goodness of God, it says the following “Or despise you the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering: not knowing that the GOODNESS OF GOD leads you to repentance?
Notice the word riches of His goodness, God is a God that is abounding and overflowing with goodness for you, for me and for the whole world. The verse goes on to says that the GOODNESS of God leads to repentance. Wow.
Imagine a believer that is in sin and he knows that what He does is not right and wants to stop sinning, and yet God showers that person with goodness and love, when that person thinks he ought to be punished God expresses His goodness, sooner rather than later that person is going to repent as he realizes how good God is and how evil the sin is. Sin will lead to death and God’s goodness will lead to repentance and blessing. Now I am not talking about an easy grace, where you live as you want and do what you want and everything will be alright, that’s not what I want to express. But so many times there has been a highlight and focus when it comes to God, that He is only a God of judgement, punishment etc, though we do see this in the Bible it was for those that outright rebelled against Him, even then God gave one chance after the other expressing His goodness and love towards them.
I want you to see how Good our God is and how much He loves you and wants to bless you. Open up your heart and life to be a recipient of His goodness. Do not look at Him like a God who is out to hurt you, no, on the contrary He is out to do you good.
Receive it in Jesus name. Amen.
