Luke 15:17-20
One day while studying to preach a message on the prodigal son, the Lord gave me the following statement,
“A decision without action is just a good intention”.
This word of the Lord came as I read verse 17 of Luke Chapter 15, where it says that the prodigal son, while he was in the pig pen, came to himself and said “How many hired servants of my Father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger”. In the following verse, comes the DECISION, he says “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you. And am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants”. This is where the prodigal son makes the decision that he will leave the place where he finds himself and go back to the better place that God had for him. Notice that he could have made that decision and just stayed right there, expecting some miracle to translate him to the fathers house. That decision needed to be followed by action, or else it was just a good intention.
Verse 20 is the key, it is the action to the decision, and it is what set in motion his day of blessing, the verse says, “And he AROSE, and came to his father..” And we know what happened next, His Father received him, forgave him, put a robe on him, put a ring on his finger and shoes on His feet. Then killed the fatted calf and threw a great BBQ party, because his son who was dead, was now alive, he was lost and now found. Praise the Lord.
It all happened because this son, had a thought, made a decision then followed that decision with action.
Many people have made great decisions but have not followed them with actions, thus the opportunity for blessing was lost. If God is dealing with you about something, and you have decided to do it then give that decision action. This will give God the freedom to move and direct you to the place that he has for you.
Don’t let your decision just become a good intention. Turn them into realities. God bless you.
