Romans 12:11
The word enthusiasm means: lively or intense interest towards something, passion, ardour. The word in the Bible that encapsulates enthusiasm is Fervency, and this word in the original means: enthusiastic, excited, on fire, passionate and zealous.
The opposite word used in the Bible to fervency is the word slothful and this word means: to be slow, sluggish, lazy, inactive, slack.
The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12: 11 ” Not slothful in business, fervent in spirit serving the Lord”.
As believers we should be people of enthusiasm and fervency. Coming to church, praising God, hearing the word, praying, fellowshipping with the brethren etc should be done with passion, excitement and zeal.
We must have an understanding that we are about God’s business and every thing that we do is done in service to Him. This is what the Apostle Paul wanted to get across to His readers, we must serve the Lord in whatever capacity that might be, with a fervent spirit.
God expects nothing less from us. Passion is in many cases the missing link in so much of today’s Christianity. We can be passionate about a movie or a rugby league game, but when it comes to God we are many times caught in the trap of giving him second best and doing it with a sluggish attitude.
Slothful service to God displeases Him, not only that, it also reveals the condition of our heart and where we are spiritually.
Through this devotional, I want to encourage you my brother and sister, to get excited about the things of God; let it never become a bore or a burden. If that ever happens we have God’s loving arms wide open to receive us and fill us with His Holy Spirit and to set us on fire for Him.
May God bless you and lets be Enthusiastic about Him.
