3rd John 2
It is the will of God that you and I would live in prosperity in every area of our lives.
Unfortunately in many Christian circles when people hear the word prosperity, the first thing that comes to their minds is the dollar sign or money. Thinking like this limits the believer to focus only on a small part of the prosperous life.
Someone once said and I agree “Prosperity is not money, but it does include money”.
There is so much more to God’s prosperity than only money.
Can you imagine for a moment, a man having abundance of money but his marriage is on the verge of divorce, no matter how much money that man has he is not living a life of prosperity. Biblical prosperity goes so much further than just money.
The word prosperity simply means: to go forward, to succeed, be mighty, be good, to flourish, be blessed etc.
The Apostle John in his third book in verse three explains God’s prosperity clearly.
The verse reveals to us the three fold prosperity that God wants us to live.
He said the following “I wish (desire) above all things that you may prosper” this first part refers to financial prosperity.
Then he goes on to say “And be in (prosperous) health”, this second part, speaks of physical prosperity.
Thirdly the apostle says “Even as your soul prospers” this is speaking of spiritual prosperity. So we have here the whole Gospel for the whole man.
The first two, financial and physical prosperity must flow out of our spiritual prosperity. Thus our spiritual prosperity is the most important one, if that one is right, the prosperous life will follow.
Notice once again how the Apostle says “I wish above all things that you may prosper”, what he is saying is, I want you to live a life of prosperity.
Biblical prosperity is not a bad thing it is a God thing and we must endeavour to live up to the standard of the word.
