Acts 6:1-7
It was towards the end of last year while I was urgently seeking the Lord about this church that He had instructed me and my wife to plant; I was laying before Him the needs that would be evident of a church that was starting in faith. I was praying that He would bring along to the church musicians to help us with the music side of the church, I was praying for people talented in accounting and marketing, I was praying for people that would help me with getting the messages recorded on cd and dvd, I was praying for the Lord to bring people with resources to help us reach this city with the Gospel etc, etc , etc I was praying for all these things that are of great value to any visionary church and needed.
But as I was deeply and passionately praying about these needs the Lord stopped me and gave me a word into my spirit, I can still remember when it happened, he said “Major on the word, don't major on the minors, as you do this (major on the word) all these other things will be added to the church”. It was like a light bulb went off in my mind and a peace entered into my heart, I was to concentrate on preaching the word and He would take care of the rest. I had been caught focusing on the minors.
Now don't get me wrong all these other things are of great importance to any thriving church, but nothing and I mean nothing can ever take the place of the preaching of the word of God.
The Lord during that time of prayer took me to Acts 6:1-7 where the apostles after been confronted with the news that certain widows where missing out on the daily distribution of food and they said, “choose 7 men that can take care of this business” and then they said in verse 4 “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word ” they had said earlier in verse 2 “it is not reason that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.
What they were saying was exactly what God spoke to my spirit, we are going to major on the word, for this is how the church of God will grow.
So therefore, here at Gospel of Power Church we have a mission to major on the word, to be a word church, and that the church may grow with the word as the foundation.
The Lord said this because He knows that it is the word and only the word that saves, heals, delivers and renews the mind.
And people today are hungry for the word of God.
